1,000 Years of Change

The temperature plot is the "hockey stick": click here for more information. Here is a chart of global temperatures since people began to measure them with thermometers starting in about 1880. The temperature plot above begins in the year 1,000 and thus catches the end of the Medieval Warm Period (MWP) as it transitions into the Little Ice Age. Temperatures in the second half of the twentieth century have risen much faster and much farther than they did during the Medieval Warm Period, which in any case mainly affected the Northern Hemisphere, not the entire planet.
